At Quantum Dice, we are proud to commemorate International Women in Engineering Day. As we celebrate the remarkable contributions of women in engineering, we also recognise the need to empower and inspire more women to join the quantum workforce. According to Engineering UK, in 2021 only 16.5% of engineers in the UK were women. That is why we have curated a collection of some useful resources we have come across that support women and girls in their engineering journey in countries around the world including the UK, USA, Germany and Singapore.
Global
OneQuantum
OneQuantum, a community platform for anyone active or interested in quantum technology, has a Women in Quantum chapter. This chapter offers resources geared towards giving women in quantum a voice in the wider quantum community, as well as opportunities to collaborate and network. It offers a mentoring programme, awards, and information about career opportunities.
Girls in Quantum
Girls in Quantum provides free educational content about quantum technology to students around the globe. It produces informative blogs, podcasts, and has a resource database that compiles free educational materials.
IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE)
IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is an international community comprised of individuals who are affiliated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), united in their commitment to support and encourage women in the fields of engineering and science. It offers awards, grants and scholarships, events, affinity groups and produces a magazine.
#WomenInSTEM on Twitter
The #WomenInSTEM conversation on Twitter celebrates women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Join in on the conversation using the hashtag to engage with fellow professionals, share your achievements, and discover inspiring stories that amplify the voices of women in engineering.
The UK
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)
The IET, which is one of the world’s largest engineering institutions with over 155,000 members, offers a number of awards to honour early career women engineers and help them to advance their careers. Awards include the Young Woman Engineer of the Year (YWE) Award, The Mary George Memorial Prize for Apprentices, the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) Prize, and the Gender Diversity Ambassador Award.
The organisation also runs events and webinars focusing on women in engineering. For example, there is a free webinar coming up on 26th June about “Discovering the history of women in STEM: an international archives event”.
Institute of Physics (IOP)
The IOP runs a Women in Physics special interest group, which is driven by a community of IOP members and allows them to connect and share knowledge and ideas. The IOP funds the group to deliver a range of activities including events, prizes, and bursaries.
SheCanEngineer
SheCanEngineer is a diversity and inclusion initiative based in London. It is formed from a collaboration of professional engineering institutions and works to encourage and promote female engineers.
