Challenge Timeline
A structured journey from registration to recognition, designed to support your development process.
Phase 1: Registration
Sign up to receive information about the Intro Day and the challenge details.
Key Activities:
- Registration closes on May 4.
Phase 2: Intro Day and Problem Release
Join us for the Intro Day where you'll learn about probabilistic computing and receive access to the challenge problems.
Key Activities:
- Access to challenge problems
- Form teams (1-3 members)
Phase 3: Development Period
Develop your solution in three stages.
Stage 1: in your teams, select a use case from our list, and outline your proposed approach to addressing it using probabilistic computing, including key parameters.
Stage 2: Define performance metrics for your model and demonstrate where probabilistic computing can deliver meaningful improvements, and why.
Stage 3: Run benchmarks on the Quantum Dice simulator. There will be an assessment at the end of each stage selecting the best projects that can proceed in the challenge.
Phase 4: Final Submission
Submit your completed solution with all required documentation and presentation materials.
Phase 5: Judging & Results
Expert panel evaluates submissions and announces winners.

Solution:
A probabilistic computing approach for managing risk across highly correlated choices, demonstrated through portfolio-level optimisation in a sports betting use case.
2nd Place – The Committed Units
Michaelmas 2025
Solution:
A solution to the stochastic unit commitment problem, optimising power generation schedules in the energy grid under uncertain demand while minimising cost.
3rd Place – The Quantext Team
Michaelmas 2025
Solution:
A retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system that uses probabilistic computing to select complementary, non-redundant context, improving information retrieval in commonplace AI applications.
